Vanishing Villages series
‘The painting series Vanishing Villages (Katoavat kylät) is based on buildings in villages north of the Mediterranean that were marked for demolition to make way for apartment blocks and hotels.
I worked freely, with forms deliberately simplified. Throughout the series, I have emphasised rhythm and composition, and each painting carries a quiet sense of waiting.’
